NL # 44 – Perseverance. Handling Destructive Criticism. Peace.
Thought #1 – Perseverance.
Keep moving no matter what obstacles you encounter. Walk around them, over them, behind them, through them and never let them stop you. This is what perseverance is all about.
Thought #2 – Handling Destructive Criticism.
Criticism that serves to harm, hurt, or ruin your reputation is destructive. This type of feedback is useless because it is demeaning, insulting, subjective, and offers no solution.
Unfortunately, you will encounter this type of criticism at some point in your life, so learning how to handle it is important.
First, don’t waste your precious time dwelling on their negative comments. It will only damage your self-esteem and can send you down a path toward anxiety and depression.
Second, consider the source. Most times than none, this type of feedback comes from individuals who are toxic, insecure, and disgruntled.
Third, dismiss it. The fact is you won’t please everyone, and people who choose to be inconsiderate and negative in their delivery of feedback don’t deserve to take up any space in your brain.
So, toss their comments in the proverbial trash and move on.
Thought #3 – Peace.
Stop for a minute. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in. Hold it for three seconds and then slowly breathe out.
Take another deep breath in. Hold it for three seconds and then slowly breathe out.
Last time, take a deep breath in. Hold it for three seconds and then slowly breathe out.
Now, slowly open your eyes, and be aware of what you are now feeling… Peace.
Carry on…
When you want to feel at peace again, even if it’s for a few minutes, repeat the steps above.
Quote for the Week
I do not think that there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost everything, even nature.
