NL # 20 – How to Be Productive. Commit to Being a Lifelong Learner. Be that Leader who Listens.

Thought #1 – How to Be Productive.

No matter what you have heard, multitasking doesn’t result in you being more productive. Since your brain can only concentrate on one task at a time, trying to complete several tasks at the same time will only leave you distracted, not productive.

Productivity will be evident when you value your time. Here are three ways that can help you do just that.

First, prioritize your tasks for the day and block time in your schedule to complete the most important ones first. Once you have blocked the time, stick to the schedule, and don’t give into the urge to delay what needs to be done. This step may seem elementary, but it is very easy to get sidetracked.

Second, know when to say “no”. Taking on additional tasks that aren’t necessary just because you don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings, will decrease your productivity, and further delay your plans. So, use your “yes” sparingly.

Third, be consistent in working through your schedule. It’s easy to start something and then stop. We all know and feel that resistance when we need to accomplish a task. But you must fight through it, because once you get past that resistance, accomplishing your tasks will be that much easier.

Thought #2 – Commit to Being a Lifelong Learner.

Most of the information you consume will become outdated as quickly as you encounter it.

So, keep being curious, keep innovating, and keep reading, because your commitment to lifelong learning will always give you an edge over those who don’t care much about learning anything new every day.

Thought #3 – Be that Leader Who Listens.

Leaders who take the time to listen are more successful than those who don’t.

When you care about the people you lead, listening can be easy. It shows them that:

  • You care
  • You want to hear their perspective, and
  • Their opinions matter.

Quote for the Week
